I was thinking what to write for the first 3air blog post and I thought I’ll just go with the flow and let’s see where it brings us. Hopefully you’ll be entertained and get a bit of the 3air enthusiasm.
3air was born out of the wonderful combination of traditional telecom business model, paired with cutting edge microwave technology and brilliant blockchain ecosystem.
I’ve been following the development of the K3 last mile solutions for quite a few years, seeing it being implemented around the world successfully and growing to the point that it’s now possible to cover an entire city within a few months with optics grade broadband coverage.
I was, and I remain to be impressed.
But I’m also impressed by Satoshi Nakamoto’s vision of decentralized money and the economies that can be built around it.
So, I proposed 3air. A project that would combine both worlds and solve many real-world problems.
Looking at how the wireless technology solution in Freetown is working on the hardest terrain and in the harshest weather, but how the traditional businesses that we are all reliant upon are failing everybody, I immediately saw the potential of solving those problems by incorporating blockchain technology. It really is a straightforward solution if you know a thing or two about its advantages.
Just imagine it… We get a line to our offices each month in Sierra Leone because people need to come in to pay for their monthly internet subscription in cash. If you are from Europe or the US or a similar country where everyone has a credit card and a bank account, that’s just unimaginable, right. It’s also similar with IDs. When you get a handwritten business card as an ID, something needs to change.
As you can see 3air is not only about connecting the unconnected, but it’s also about banking the unbanked and giving people of developing countries equal opportunities. There are so many bright minds in Africa that just get unnoticed. Maybe only because they don’t have the means to educate themselves or communicate with the world.
In 3air we care. And Africa is ready for a change!
This is not your typical spoiled neighbor that is just opposed to anything new. Adoption of cryptocurrencies in Africa are far above average despite the challenges in connectivity, technology, and education. Why? Because they need the change. As it seems Africa will just jump over one whole generation of finances. They will get from having no bank accounts and no credit cards, directly to the blockchain payment solutions and DeFi (Decentralized Finance).
It is 3air’s vision to provide this opportunity to such a promising nation. I believe free access to information is a basic human right and it has the power to change the world for the better. Let’s connect the unconnected and give them the opportunity to shine. To change their lives and to change ours.
